Game Report

Sheffield Steelers 2-3 Dundee Stars
Attendance : 2728

Visiting Stars stunned the home side by sweeping into a 3-0 lead in the opening period and although Sheffield lifted their goalie for an extra skater with 91 seconds left, they never looked like tying this one.

Dwight Parrish makes his debut for Sheffield as Ryan Lake is missing with a bad back. Dundee missing Gary Wishart and Jason Shmyr.

Scott Barnes and Paul Berrington cut through Sheffield's young third line and Jeff Marshall had time and space to net high from 8 feet (1.58).

Home captain Dion Darling responded with a shot from the blue line and Mike Peron was blanked twice by goalie Glenn Ridler as Sheffield took the game to their visitors. Scott Barnes was again the creator as David Smith was allowed oceans of space to fire home across goalie Platt (9.05). Platt then did well to blank Barnes at point-blank range after Gerad Adams took a roughing minor. Two minutes later Christian Borgatello's shot from distance went straight through the home goalie (18.16).

Sheffield came out at the start of the second showing much more passion. Marc LeFebvre won the puck on the right boards and skated inside to rifle home high (24.16). Five minutes later Gerad Adams just couldn't put away his own rebound.

With Sheffield pressing, Scott Corbett took a penalty for elbows. Mike Peron rang the far post on the restart. Another five minutes and Ron Shudra took full advantage of an unsighted goalie to net low (34.59).

The home side huffed and puffed in the final period but ran out of steam. Ridler did well to twice blank Adams three minutes in, and then blanked Peron at his left post five minutes later. Rob Stewart gamely lifted his goalie for an extra player with 91 seconds remaining, but Ridler never had a shot to save.
