Sheffield 1-2 Coventry
Sheffield missing Gerad Adams, Coventry missing Shaun Johnson. Coventry skate to a deserved win as three games in three nights leave Sheffield tired and slightly ragged. Sheffield fail to win a game for the first time since they visited Nottingham 12 games ago as Blaze extended their winning streak to 6. Most of the goal mouth action arrived in the first period and Coventry converted 2 of their chances. Gallace netted high from the left (12:29). With Blaze continuing to create the chances, Cowley muscled his way across the front and Richardson bagged the rebound from in front of Dopson's left post. Earlier Lehman had thwarted Sheffield's efforts though Ellis was unlucky to see his shot come back off the inside of the far post in the 10th minute. In the closing minute of the first period Gallace got away 2-on-1 but Dopson gloved his left wing shot. Coventry were penalised for being late out of their dressing room to commence the second period, but only Anderson tested Lehman during the advantage. LeFebvre didn't help Sheffield's cause taking a 2+10 checking from behind penalty just before the halfway point. Sheffield saw off the powerplay then ex-Steeler Carpenter pushed up to force a good stop. Sheffield managed a single breakaway early in the third with Coventry looking the stronger, picking off passes and making life difficult for Sheffield to build. With the game slipping away Ellis broke down the right and put Sheffield on the board (52:38). The next 4 minutes saw some big chances for Sheffield, but when they lifted Dopson Blaze looked likeliest to score. |
